Hi, I’m Geochick.

Welcome to my blog. What started out as a private blog to document our adoption journey has evolved into my journey through therapy and spiritual awakening. Without our struggles to build a family, I’m not sure I’d be waking up, and for that I’m grateful.

We had a good meeting yesterday with the expectant parents (who I'll refer to as Mom and Dad for now, because it's easier).  Although awkward, as in, how is it not awkward to meet the people who are going to entrust their child to you?   Anyway, we talked about Baby X and the relationship we have with C, and we expressed that we want to have visits with them as well.  (That was one of their criteria, so we are reinforcing that we're on board).  We also talked a little bit about families and interests.  I had a couple questions, but I got pretty nervous and afraid to offend that it took me a long time to come around to them.  Both Mom and Dad are artistic, and Mom likes to sing and draw.  In her family, everyone sings or plays an instrument, which I think is awesome, because that's similar to my family.  Dad used to play the bass in a band.  All in all, quite the opposite of S and mine's engineering-life.  When we asked what they like about our profile, they couldn't really put their finger on it, or at least I guess one thing didn't stand out.  They did check out our website where we had put up an excerpt of  our video profile as well as adoption resources, and a bunch of pictures and some random facts, plus a few blog posts and a link to a P-terest page.  I like to think that having that detailed info available might have helped.  It's so much easier to show what you are like through a website than it is through a letter.

In the afternoon, we got a phone call with an update on her doctor's appointment.  The report was that labor is imminent, and the doctor thinks she will deliver this weekend.  Aaaahhhhh!!!

So we wait, cell phones close by, for the call telling us to hightail it to the hospital.  We have the car seat installed (the back seat of my Prius is now totally full of car seats), a bag packed and a going-home  outfit picked out (hand-me-down from Baby X yes, it's starting already, although I have my doubts whether he actually wore this one).  Oh, and a name for a boy and a girl.  The naming process has been really interesting this time around, mostly because we have been thrown into such a whirlwind.  Names that we thought we liked the last time around don't seem to fit.  But, we managed to come up with two that we like after scouring lists last night!  S's parents and sister are on-call to take Baby X when we have to go to the hospital and if we get the call in the middle of the night we'll probably wait until the early morning to head out so that we don't have to wake them up too early.  And that work and lists I thought I have to get done before going on maternity leave?  Mmmm... questionable at this point.  :)

Happy ICLW!
