Hi, I’m Geochick.

Welcome to my blog. What started out as a private blog to document our adoption journey has evolved into my journey through therapy and spiritual awakening. Without our struggles to build a family, I’m not sure I’d be waking up, and for that I’m grateful.

Back to Work - edited for stat corrections

I'm glad I don't live on the east coast. If I did, I would have found out at midnight that I had to be at work this morning. I gotta hand it to this group of legislators, they sure do know how to get shit done at the last minute.

Anyway, we are back at work and I found out that almost 40% of the people who work in my organization had been called back for part-time or full- time work during the shutdown. Also, only 30% of federal workers were furloughed and DOD brought back almost half of that during the shutdown. So, really 15% of us were twiddling our thumbs, but actually less because, of that 15%, many were working.  Employees called back to work are always guaranteed to get paid when the shutdown is over. The rest are not guaranteed to get paid unless legislation is passed (it was).

The takeaway I would like to present to my tiny corner of the blogosphere, is that those of us furloughed the entire time is a very small percentage of workers.

And also, I have a big Fuck You to those stating that federal employees should be punished by not receiving pay. Why the fuck should I, a productive engineer be punished for a disaster I did not create?  If anyone should forgo pay, it's those who put us in this position in the first place.
