X's preschool teacher is going on maternity leave, and at the last minute we realized, she's the teacher who has worked with him the most since he moved up to the preschool room. Two days before she left, we hurriedly scheduled a parent-teacher conference to catch up on his progress.
He is blowing his teachers away with his advanced levels of empathy, complex sentences, rule following and conflict resolution. She was hard pressed to come up with areas of improvement as he scores the highest possible on almost every developmental milestone that is tracked by the curriculum.
We suspected his advanced development for some time now, but try to play it down for the most part. Our mantra has been, "Yeah, he looks like he's five because he's so tall, but he acts like he's three!" He doesn't act like he's three. He holds his own with the 4-5 year olds in the classroom. He's a natural leader, and everyone's best friend. He hasn't shown any jealousy toward Z since we brought Z home. He gives Z little kisses, and sings Twinkle Twinkle Little Star to make him smile.
My kid is amazing.
